The task of replacing your basement windows is such an easy one that you can do it yourself without having to get outside help. This simple guideline will give you all the information and guidance you need to replace your own basement windows. For starters, all you need is a hammer, chisel, drill, measuring tape, caulk, urethane foam and saw. Most of you would already have these items in your house. For good measure, keep a broom and dust pan handy so you can clear away the debris once you are done.

The first step would be to remove the sash or curtains from your existing windows. If you plan to reuse them again, keep them away from the basement area because it is bound to get a little dusty. Then, use the saw to cut away at the wood panelling of the old windows. Carefully remove the wood panelling. If there are any bits and pieces left of the panel, use your hammer and chisel to remove them as well.

Once you have done that, take your new basement window and slide it over the opening which you have just created. At this stage, you can use a measuring tape to ensure that your new basement windows are centre. It would also be a good idea to get any one of your family members to double check and see if they are in the proper place. Once you have done this, screw the window in place over the mudsill.

Outside, place some caulk on the outer part of the window. You will also need to put some urethane foam at the bottom of the windowsill. This will ensure that your window is now secure in place. The last and final step would be to apply a coat of primer onto the bare windowsills. You can even top up with two more coats if you like.

You can now repeat the procedure with all basement windows that you want to replace in your home. Do not forget to sweep away the debris and chipped wood. You now have successfully completed the task of replacing all your basement windows.
