Despite concerns from a handful of residents, environmentalists and others that a proposed mega-retail center on one of the last major swaths of open land in San Jose will negatively affect traffic and quality of life, the San Jose City Council on Tuesday night easily approved rezoning the area for such a project.
In a 7-to-1 vote, the council agreed to change the designation of about 45 acres of land on the northeast corner of Highway 85 and Almaden Expressway to commercial use only.
The council also denied a recent appeal of the project’s environmental impact report by an adjacent landowner concerned about a new traffic median that he thinks will affect some nearby businesses.

A newly elected city commissioner is crusading against the city’s plans to spend $7.5 million on pine cone-themed street beautification using money that was earmarked for economic redevelopment of the city’s rundown east side.
“There’s no way that $7 million or $7.5 million is going to go to streetscaping,” said Commissioner Jay Schwartz, who represents the northeast side. “It’s just too much money for a project like this. Especially since the economic development funds are essential to our city’s growth.

British group THE THE have released their new album, ‘Moonbug’, an original soundtrack to the award-winning documentary feature film of the same name.
The film follows renowned portrait photographer Steve Pyke MBE (New Yorker Magazine, Life Magazine) on his extraordinary journey across America to meet, interview and photograph his childhood heroes – the men who went to the moon.
