Check with your state’s nurse aide registry to make sure you can work as a nursing assistant without a license. You should also make sure that you meet your state’s requirements for nursing assistants. For example, your state may require that nursing assistants pass criminal offender background checks.

Verify that the vocational area you desire indeed permits an online certificate. For example, you can likely find a job as a psychiatric nursing assistant without formal education, but if you want to work as a nursing assistant who draws blood or administers medications by injection, you cannot do so without a traditional classroom education.

Look online for a nursing assistant course. Before you sign up, check to see if the school is registered with the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing and Education. Registration with either agency is an indication of a credible school.
